Baggage Logistics

Baggage is often a factor when considering our mode of transport when travelling.

To minimize inconvenience and maximize comfort, Japan offers several services to ease the burden of lugging around our baggage to and from the airports.

Coin Lockers

Coin lockers are available at most train stations and airports.
They usually come in three sizes, Small, Medium and Large.
Fees typically vary from around 300 yen to 600 yen per day per time and it is charged per calendar day from midnight to midnight.

Baggage Storage

Most major airports in Japan provide temporary baggage storage service operated by various transport companies.
This is a convenient service that allows travellers to store luggage that they do not need (eg, shopping goods) at the airport till they are ready to depart Japan.

You can store your luggage at the baggage service counter for up to 30 days.
Fees vary depending on the luggage size and transport operator.

Luggage Delivery

Luggage delivery service is another affordable and convenient service that allows travellers to travel to and from the airport in comfort, minus the burden of lugging around suitcases.

This service provides delivery between airports and hotels, homes, convenience stores and service centers. It also does delivery between hotels when you are moving from one place to another. It is also available at popular tourist spots such as Tokyo Station, Kyoto Station and Hakone-Yumoto Station.

This service is especially useful if you are travelling with young children or the elderly so your energy and attention can be spent looking after them rather than the suitcases.

For tourists who need an extra suitcase for their shopping, this is a very useful service as well.

You can visit the baggage service counters for same-day* luggage delivery to your hotel.
*for certain areas in Tokyo, delivery time may vary depending on location

For receiving of luggage, most big hotels are able to assist but small business hotels may not have the service. (please check with your hotel)

There are 2 ways to send your luggage to the airport.

  1. Bring your luggage to the nearest convenience store or Yamato Transport Office and apply from there (at least 2 to 3 days in advance).
  2. Call or book online to make a reservation for luggage pickup at your hotel (at least 3 to 4 days in advance). Most hotels will be able to assist in sending your luggage (please check with your hotel).

Pickup counters are usually located at the departure lobby.
